What are you playing this weekend, Destructoid?
What are you playing this weekend, Destructoid? Greetings and salutations, my friendly bots, and welcome back to the "Whatcha been playing?" portion of our site that has been dead and buried until now because I felt like bringing it back, no matter what my corporate overlords think. I'm here to revel in your choices this week of games, and what you plan to play this weekend to put your feet up after a long week of work or school—or both. It's been a weird week for releases this time around, with an obvious game coming to mind for weekend gaming ahead. Granted, there's still plenty of things on offer as we look forward to Switch 2's release in three weeks (if, like me, you were lucky enough to get a pre-order in.) But let's quit yapping and discuss games, shall we? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1i3YfGl5ag&ab_channel=BethesdaSoftworks Doom The Dark Ages is where I expect a lot of you Game Pass owners to be spending your time this weekend. My fellow Bots on-site have been playing and gushing over it for some time now , which has made me a bit envious while I slog away at the backend, trying to find things to talk about. It feels like a super fun time where I can let my head go empty as I slay demons to heavy metal and ride on dragons. What's not to love about that? I'm not a big Doom fan myself, but the rest of the releases this week are leaving little offerings. So perhaps it's time to go back and check out my backlog of titles I have still to play? The Precinct appears to be a fun indie game, but I also need to go and upgrade my Palworld base ahead of this summer's bigger new expansion . I really wish Sonic Rumble had launched when it was intended to on May 8, as I feel I'd have been grinding away on that on mobile right about now. I find myself a little lost, honestly, so I'm curious if there's any hidden gems you've been playing that you want to highlight for me, or someone else, to play this weekend if you aren't ripping and tearing away. If you are, leave it in the comments! (Please. I need to some variety in my life) The post What are you playing this weekend, Destructoid? appeared first on Destructoid .

Upcoming Palworld x Terraria collab wasn’t on my video game bingo card for 2025
Upcoming Palworld x Terraria collab wasn’t on my video game bingo card for 2025 Indie hit Palworld keeps growing in terms of content, and developers Pocketpair have announced an upcoming collab with Terraria. The news of the upcoming collab was announced on May 13 as a summer expansion. If you, like me, have been skeptical about Palworld's future, there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic instead. The developers haven't shared many details yet, but it has certainly caught me by surprise. Palworld's Terraria collab will be a big expansion 2025 has been a surprising year of video game releases and announcements (Rockstar's GTA 6 delay broke my heart). Despite the difficulties that Pocketpair has had to endure from Nintendo, Palworld has continued to receive regular updates. There has been plenty of new content since the game's launch. Pocketpair has proved all doubters wrong again with the recent announcement. Titled Palworld Tides of Terraria , the major expansion will have the worlds of the two video games collide. As mentioned earlier, the exact details remain hidden. The update should arrive in the summer. Based on the official information, we will be able to catch monsters from the world of Terraria and add them as pals. There is news of new pals, islands, and more. More information will be announced over the next few weeks via social media channels, and I am quite excited. https://twitter.com/Palworld_EN/status/1922095723560026357 Pocketpair has also revealed a few screenshots, and things look pretty interesting. I am always excited to have new pals, and so should the community. Terraria, on its own, has been among my favorite indies, which makes me more hyped for the upcoming expansion. When Nintendo sued Pocketpair , I was skeptical about what the future holds for Palworld . Since then, things have been pretty positive as far as new gameplay content is concerned. The upcoming update should also be available for free, which makes things even better for those of us who own a copy. At this point, I don't even know what more to expect from Pocketpair. I am extremely excited about this upcoming expansion, and hopefully, it will have plenty of new content for the likes of us who have already reached the endgame. Palworld loses fan-favorite feature in fight against Nintendo
Palworld loses fan-favorite feature in fight against Nintendo Popular indie sensation Palworld has lost another key feature beloved by many in its latest update as developer Pocketpair continues to strategically mitigate the lawsuit filed by gaming giant Nintendo. Update v0.5.5, which went live on May 8, has only one major change worth noticing: players will no longer be able to use their Pals as a Glider . Instead, they will need to use a Glider to move in the air. Many players, including myself, were taken by surprise, but Pocketpair quickly explained the rationale behind its decision. Palworld's recent change was forced onto the developer Before v0.5.5, you could glide on certain pals and traverse the different corners of the map. It was a cool feature since you were free to shoot/use your hands for other tasks while gliding in the air. But players will no longer be able to do so, and the alternative is to use a glider. Based on the explanation from Pocketpair, the recent change in Palworld is a "compromise." Incidentally, this appears to be the second forced change following one from November 2024 when Pals appearing from thrown Pal Spheres was changed. While the community was okay with that change because it wasn't as noticeable, the same can't be said about this new change. For starters, gliding on your Pals and with a Glider isn't the same. Secondly, it will occupy an extra item slot as well, which makes it problematic for inventory management. While the situation can be mitigated, gliding on your Pals was far more convenient. There was also the added advantage of shooting at things while in the air, which won't be the case anymore. https://twitter.com/Palworld_EN/status/1920359710055862699 The community is quite expectedly disappointed with the new change, and the developer is well aware of it. We understand that this will be disappointing for many, just as it is for us, but we hope our fans understand that these changes are necessary in order to prevent further disruptions to the development of Palworld ." If there's any consolation, players should be expecting steady development for the game in the meantime, as the recent change should clear any chances of an immediate injunction against either Pocketpair or Palworld .
