Nintendo confirms Switch 2 release date - what you need to do before June 5th It’s what we’ve all been waiting for, and it’s now official - the Nintendo Switch 2 is coming on June 5th, 2025 . We’ve heard plenty of rumors, we’ve been living off whispers and speculation for months, and after what feels like an eternity, we finally know when we’ll be able to get our hands on Nintendo’s next-gen handheld console. Now that we know when to mark our calendars, we’re expecting a landslide of announcements and trailers to really ramp the excitement up. With the Switch 2 release date officially confirmed, we’re eagerly sorting out our Switch 2 pre-orders and going through our library of the best Switch games . We already know that the successor to Nintendo’s original handheld is backward-compatible, so we can play all of our existing games on the bigger and better console, but we’ve also got mountains of new Switch games to get excited about. After this latest Nintendo Direct , we’ve also got a double serving of Treehouse streams to look forward to in the days following, with literal hours of gameplay trailers and presentations to enjoy. Elden Ring is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 Tarnsied, it’s time to rise once more as Elden Ring is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 later this year, proving to be one of the more surprising announcements from the showcase. I, for one, can’t wait to revisit The Lands Between. Elden Ring first came out in 2022, quickly cementing itself as one of the best Soulslike games you can play, with its DLC further supporting that upon its release in 2024. While we don’t have a solid release date for the game on Nintendo Switch 2 , we know that Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is coming to the console sometime this year. You play as a Tarnished whose mission it is to become Elden Lord, following what I can only describe as a huge mess courtesy of Queen Marika. It features a vast open world where danger lurks around every corner and bosses await to put an end to your journey. Nintendo finally confirms release date of new Mario Kart World game It’s-a time to put the pedal to the metal, because Mario Kart World is coming on June 5th, 2025 . It’s been a surprisingly long time since we’ve heard anything about the next installment of the most iconic racing game on the planet, which isn’t altogether surprising, considering MK8 is one of the best-selling video games of all time. Over 67 million of us have been zooming off the Rainbow Road track, but now we finally have confirmation that the next race is on the horizon. We’ve been keeping an eye on the checkered flag while we’ve been busy playing through our picks of the best Switch racing games . But if, like us, you’ve been waiting for news on a new Mario game , then that wait is almost over, because Nintendo has announced that there's a Mario Kart World Direct on April 17, 2025 . It’s hardly surprising, as pretty much everyone thought that MK9 would be a launch title for the Switch 2 , but we’re also hopeful that the new entry to the flagship franchise will be backward-compatible with the original Switch console. We got our first glimpse of MK World when the first look trailer for the Switch 2 came out, and now that we’ve got confirmation on a direct, we’re looking forward to finding out even more about the latest racer. We’ve heard heaps of rumors, including a fuel management system, new power-ups, the return of kart customization, and the potential for a 24-player race. What we do know is that Nintendo has left plenty of room for upgraded play, with free roam, in-race parkour, and something that promises to be bigger and better than MK8. We have the Nintendo Switch 2, but still no new Nintendogs game Way back in 2011, we got Nintendogs + Cats as a launch title on the 3DS. Now, we’ve got the Nintendo Switch 2 , three generations later, and still no new Nintendogs game , leaving us without any cute virtual pups to take care of in real-time. The Nintendogs series was a huge hit, and, even today, it still has people playing with their little digital doggies and rescuing forgotten cartridges from thrift stores to adopt old pets. So why on earth haven’t we got a new dog game for the Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 ? There could be some great innovations using the Switch 2’s tech, like motion controls and mouse functionality, making it that much easier to throw a ball for Maxwell or walk Lucky and Daisy. The Nintendo Switch 2’s GameShare feature lets you play with friends for free Nintendo gave everyone a proper look at the Nintendo Switch 2 in an hour-long Direct, including a new feature called GameShare. This allows you to play locally with other players who have their own console, but you only need one copy of the game. Up to three consoles can receive the game via wireless connectivity, which means if you're with friends and suddenly fancy playing 51 Worldwide Games, you can do just that, regardless of whether you all own it. You can use the local wireless connectivity with Switch and Switch 2 , while only Switch 2 can use the online functionality, including the new GameChat feature . This is great for anyone who enjoys card games or titles like Uno, where you don't want other players seeing your screen.
