Everything announced during the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct It's not every day you see two Nintendo Directs in one week. While the March 27 Direct dove into the release dates of games like Shadow Labyrinth , two Patapon remakes, and the latest Story of Seasons game, this Direct is all about the Switch 2. Let's face it: the hype surrounding the Switch 2 is comparable to GTA 6 . Everyone knows it exists but wants to find as much information as possible to decide whether to buy it on day one or wait a while. Let's dive into the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct and everything it has in store. Everything revealed during the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct Nintendo Switch 2 release date We have a release date for the Nintendo Switch 2. The Switch 2 will officially launch on June 5, 2025 , alongside several new titles and Switch 1 games getting enhanced remakes for the new console. Mario Kart World Screenshot by Destructoid Mario Kart World takes center stage as the first major reveal. While we caught glimpses of it during the Switch 2's first announcement trailer, this is the first time we have witnessed its gameplay and all 24 of its racers as focal points. Mario Kart World's gameplay has multiple changes from previous games in the franchise, from weather changes on each map to costume changes and wall riding. It'll be released as a Nintendo Switch 2 launch title on June 5 . GameChat The first key feature update for the Switch 2 is a Discord-like voice chat and screen-sharing system that can be used directly from your console. Using a "C" button on your joycons, you'll be able to join a voice chat with friends as long as you have a Nintendo Switch Online membership. Alongside GameChat , a Switch 2 Camera is launching the same day as the Switch 2, letting you show your face as you talk in GameChat. There's be a GameChat open access period until March 31, 2026, letting you trial the feature before deciding on a membership. The Switch 2 has a built-in microphone with noise-cancelling technology. The Switch 2 has 3D surround sound to emulate sounds appearing around you. The Switch 2 has a USB top port for charging. 256 GB of internal storage compared to the 32 GB storage in the original Switch The new Switch 2 dock has upscaling to 4K and an internal fan to keep things extra cool. You can transfer data between the Switch 1 and Switch 2, letting you exchange game saves and data. Pokémon Legends: Z-A Like Metroid Prime 4, Pokémon Legends: Z-A will also feature Switch 1 and Switch 2 editions later this year. Using the Switch 2's two joycons as mice, you'll simultaneously control both sides of the chair as you traverse the arena, shoot the ball into the net, and compete against three other players to win. Well, sort of. Hyrule Warriors Age of Imprisonment acts as a prequel to Tears of the Kingdom , with Zelda herself taking center stage as its main character. It'll launch this Winter on the Switch 2. Nintendo GameCube library Yup, you heard that right. The Switch 2 is getting a GameCube game library as part of Nintendo Switch Online. It'll feature the following games: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker SoulCalibur II F-Zero GX Although these are the only three explicitly revealed, the Direct also displayed games like Fire Emblem Path of Radiance, Super Mario Sunshine and Pokémon XD Gate of Darkness as potential future additions to the library. GTA Boss Believes Games With Live-Action-Like Visuals May Arrive Sooner Than You ThinkLater this year, Grand Theft Auto 6 may set the bar for the next few years in gaming. The first trailer for the game revealed even more realistic visuals than previous GTA games, but it's just another step forward. According to Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of GTA's parent company, Take-Two Interactive, animation that is indistinguishable from live-action footage may be arriving sooner than anyone expects. During an interview with Bloomberg , Zelnick noted that games have not reached the 'technological asymptote" of movies and TV shows, but he believes the industry is heading towards a future where games can truly replicate the appearance of reality. "Our game, NBA 2K, if you squint, looks like real basketball," said Zelnick. "But you still have to squint a little bit. It's still animation. It's terrific animation. But we don't really have interactive entertainment yet that really looks like live-action. Technology will get us there, but probably [in] a shorter period of time than maybe even I expect. That doesn't mean that every game is going to look like live-action. That wouldn't make any sense creatively, but that will be another tool in our toolkit that's generated by technology." Zelnick made similar remarks about games with realistic graphics back in 2019, before PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S were released. There have been significant graphical improvements during this console generation, but not yet to the level that Zelnick describes. During another recent interview. Zelnick suggested that President Trump's tariffs may significantly impact console sales , potentially including Nintendo's upcoming Switch 2 launch . Zelnick also reiterated his belief in single-player games , despite the increase in live-service and multiplayer games.

Take-Two CEO On GTA 6 Release Date: ‘We Want To Maintain The Anticipation And The Excitement’ In a video interview with Bloomberg last Friday, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick discussed, among other topics, Grand Theft Auto VI . Although he, unsurprisingly, doesn’t spill the beans on the release date, Zelnick provided some insight into Take-Two and Rockstar’s reasoning for keeping fans waiting. At the end of the interview, Zelnick was asked the million-dollar question: when is GTA VI launching and why is Take-Two/Rockstar keeping it such a big secret? Zelnick responded: “The anticipation for that title may be the greatest anticipation I’ve ever seen for an entertainment property. And I’ve been around the block a few times, and I’ve been in every entertainment business there is. We want to maintain the anticipation and the excitement. And we do have competitors who will describe their release schedule for years in advance, and we’ve found that the better thing to do is to provide marketing materials relatively close to the release window in order to create that excitement, on the one hand, and balance the excitement on that anticipation. And we don’t always get it exactly right, but that’s what we’re trying to do.” Earlier in the interview, Zelnick was asked to explain the 12-year wait between GTA V, released in 2013, and GTA VI, providing additional context for Rockstar’s release cadence: “Well, there are really two reasons,” says Zelnick. “We set an intention to rest our intellectual properties. So some of our competitors come to market very regularly, maybe even annually, with their titles. We only annualize our sports entertainment titles. For our non-sports titles, we think you need to create enormous anticipation, on the one hand. And of course on the other hand, it takes a long time to develop these big robust experiences. Rockstar Games seeks perfection in what they do, and perfection’s a pretty high bar. It takes a long time. And the reflection of that approach is in the success of Grand Theft Auto V, which has actually excelled in three console generations, which is extraordinary…so think of the high bar that that creates for us, of course, but much more so for the consumer.” Grand Theft Auto VI was announced in December 2023. Set in a modern-day Vice City (which is modeled after Miami and South Florida), it appears to star two protagonists, including the series' first female lead, although Rockstar has not yet divulged details on these characters or their relationship with each other. The reveal trailer became a massive success, garnering over 100 million views in just a few days and setting a YouTube record for most views within a 24-hour period. Grand Theft Auto VI is slated to release sometime this year on consoles. A PC version has yet to be confirmed, though if it does launch on the platform, it will likely arrive later .
