IWGB Union Says Rockstar's Statement Is Filled With "Disinformation" Over Fired Developers
IWGB Union Says Rockstar's Statement Is Filled With "Disinformation" Over Fired DevelopersThe Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain (IWGB) has shot back at Rockstar Games regarding the firing of 30+ staffers, saying that the company's latest statement is "littered with falsehoods and disinformation." IWGB released a statement clarifying its take on Rockstar Games' justification for terminating the 30+ UK and international employees in October 2025. Parent company Take-Two Interactive explained that the GTA developer fired those workers for "gross misconduct, and for no other reason." More specifically, Rockstar Games told GameSpot that those developers were let go for discussing "specific game features from upcoming and unannounced titles" and other "confidential information" in a public forum. IWGB took issue with that, telling GameSpot that the characterization is inaccurate. "Rockstar's latest statement is littered with falsehoods and disinformation--they have given multiple, conflicting reasons to explain why the workers were fired, as if attempting to reverse engineer a rationale for the dismissals," the union said in an emailed statement. "Once again, they have chosen to mischaracterise workers speaking about their working conditions in a private forum as 'leaking information.' It is hard to understand this statement as anything but a desperate attempt to deflect from the global scrutiny they have come under over the last month. From the UK Prime Minister in the House of Commons, to the game developers across the world erupting in protest--all eyes are on Rockstar and their lawless attack on the people who make them their billions." Here are our Destructoid Awards 2025 winners – The best games of this year
Here are our Destructoid Awards 2025 winners – The best games of this year This year has been a blast through and through for gamers. Other parts of modern society have been shaken at their core over the course of 2025, but video games persevered, allowing us to escape what's around us even if briefly. Indie games utterly dominated the year, with back-to-back successes coming from solo developers, small studios, and independent ventures alike. They are the true heroes of 2025, having rung the alarms at every corporate AAA studio, causing them to rethink their approach to game development. Some games were simply the best, and we wanted to honor their contributions to games as an art form. We previously nominated our potential winners, and are now ready to show you the best of the best. Destructoid's best games of 2025 Image via Embark Studios The following games were nominated by Destructoid's staff in 11 categories, each category containing the editorial's top five favorite games, out of which we ran a second vote to choose the ultimate winner. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is the most nominated game, carrying three categories, including Game of the Year, and three performances in the Best Acting Performance category. It's no wonder, as award shows have shown. So, here are our winners. Best Indie Game Dispatch Best RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Best Narrative Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Best Multiplayer Game ARC Raiders Best Live-Service Game ARC Raiders Best Acting Performance Ben Starr (as Verso in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 ) Best Sports Game EA Sports FC 26 Best Action Game Hades 2 Best Fighting Game 2XKO Most Anticipated Game GTA 6 The most exciting part of this whole awards process was that we figured most games, and the most successful ones especially, are original titles and not sequels. 2XKO , Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 , and Dispatch are all standalone titles, with the first one only sharing a universe with League of Legends . Even so, sequels have overwhelmed the modern gaming industry, and it's good to see original titles performing and even dominating the current scene. Expedition 33 is, as expected, the most-awarded game, winning every category it was nominated in. We expect no less from tonight's The Game Awards, where E33 is the most-nominated game of the show's history. GTA 6 Clues May Be Hidden In GTA Online's Big New Update, Fans Think
GTA 6 Clues May Be Hidden In GTA Online's Big New Update, Fans ThinkThe recent A Safehouse in the Hills update for GTA Online may contain clues about Grand Theft Auto VI , or at least that's what the franchise's passionate fanbase is theorizing based on some recent discoveries. After the big new update went live on December 10, people dug into the game's code in search of anything that might provide clues about GTA 6, and people think they found some. A line of text that was discovered references a voice line for the character Jimmy, the son of main character Michael, that says he is "moving out of state." Another line, from his mother Amanda, says, "Our son is finally moving away from home." People are taking this to suggest that Jimmy may have moved to Leonida, the stand-in for GTA 6's setting of Florida, but that's just conjecture for now. Dataminers also discovered that the KnoWay autonomous driving company that was added to GTA Online in the new update was formerly known as Sahara . That is the name of a delivery and logistics company for GTA 6, as seen in previously released GTA 6 screenshots. The dataminer, Tex2, theorized that Rockstar might have at one point planned a Part 2 for the A Safehouse in the Hills expansion to be timed with GTA 6's previous release date of May 2026 prior to the game's delay to November 2026.
