Toronto Defiant Steps Away from Overwatch 2 in 2025 – But the Ultra March On

In a heartfelt message that marks the end of an era, Toronto Defiant, the Overwatch 2 team many Canadians rallied behind, has announced it will be stepping away from competition for the 2025 season. The news comes from Adam Adamou, Co-founder and CEO of OverActive Media, the organisation behind the Defiant. In a statement shared on social media, Adamou expressed gratitude to the team’s players, staff, sponsors, and fans who made the journey unforgettable:

It seems likely that Toronto Defiant deemed continued participation unsustainable under the current circumstances.

But it’s not all doom and gloom for OverActive Media. The organisation’s Call of Duty team, the Toronto Ultra, has been making waves in the Call of Duty League (CDL). During the opening weekend of Black Ops 6’s competitive season, the Ultra delivered an electrifying performance, defeating the formidable Atlanta FaZe 3-1 and narrowly edging out the Vancouver Surge (formerly Seattle Surge) 3-2. It’s a strong start that hints at a promising year ahead for the Ultra.

So while Overwatch 2 fans may be bidding farewell to the Defiant, Call of Duty enthusiasts have every reason to cheer on their Canadian representatives.
