Even though Starfield‘s reception wasn’t the best one, it’s fair to say that the game was still a fun experience. It brought many new gameplay elements, features, and other things that Bethesda wasn’t known for delivering in the past title.
Throughout the game’s promotion, Todd Howard was proud of the fact that Starfield‘s theme was based around the “Nasa-Punk” style. While it gave a unique touch to a game, Matt Damon had already outdone Howard in his movie Interstellar, which first dipped into the Nasa-Punk style.
There’s no denying the fact that Christopher Nolan is one of the biggest hitmakers of the 21st century. He’s given us a number of remarkable movies, but nothing ever comes close to Interstellar. This science fiction epic debuted all the way back in 2014 and followed the story of a NASA pilot, Cooper, and his adventure to find habitable planets.
One of the best parts about the film was its incredible cast, which features big names such as Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, and none other than Matt Dameon. In an interview, one of the customer designers for the movie, Mary Zophres, opened up about her experience and how the film crew perfected the NASA aesthetic seen in the movie.
Everything on the suit, to me, has a purpose. Nothing’s really decorative.
Zophres designed all of the suits we see in the sci-fi movie with a NASA-inspired aesthetic and prioritized their functionality over the usual decorative shenanigans. This ended up with bulky suits in the movie that gave a Nasa-punk aesthetic
So next time Todd Howard goes around and claims that Starfield gave birth to the Nasa-punk aesthetic in video games, he should take a look at Nolan’s sci-fi movie, which did the thing ten times better than him.
It’s clear that Howard was late to the Nasa-punk aesthetic party, but he can one-up all of his competitors if Bethesda really goes ahead with another Starfield game.
In an interview, ex-Bethesda designer Bruce Nesmith reflected on the studio’s latest sci-fi RPG and stated that it would serve as an incredible template for future RPGs. According to him, the first few games in a new series tend to have issues, but they still show flashes of brilliance.
These games serve as a crucial building block for any series to start making waves in the gaming industry later on. That’s what he believes will happen when Starfield.
So, there’s a chance that Bethesda might give the sci-fi game a sequel in the future. However, the chances of this happening anytime soon are basically zero. Currently, the studio is firing all its cylinders for the development of Elder Scrolls 6, and after that, we’re likely to see another Fallout game.
So, Howard’s improved version of Nasa-punk style in the next sci-fi RPG won’t hit the markets before 2034, at least. Let’s hope he and his team can also learn from all the mistakes they made in the first game.
With that said, would you like to see a Starfield sequel in the future? Let us know in the comments below.
