Fortnite is probably the most popular gaming title at the moment. Besides its fun battle royale experience, another thing that has made the game world-class is its building mechanism. Continuous structure building amidst intense gun fights is what makes the game so special to its fans.
However, this building aspect might get a bit irritating for players at times, because more often than not, their focus shifts towards making a wall in front of them rather than dodging bullets from the enemies. That is why players have been asking for a much-needed feature for a long time, and it seems Epic Games has finally paid heed to this request.
What sets Fortnite apart from other battle royale games is its building mechanic. Because of its high learning curve, the no-build mode was created for players who didn’t want to start learning building.
According to the leaks, Epic is reportedly developing a “Smart build” feature that will enable you to construct some prefabricated structures automatically. For those who are unfamiliar with the building feature, this will make it a little simpler and more appealing.
A sneak peek at the smart building feature that Epic allegedly began developing years ago has been released by Fortnite leakers. Dataminers found new kinds of placeable builds in Fortnite patch 17.10 in the summer of 2021, which sparked rumors about a smart build function.
Based on the results, it was suggested that players could simply press a button to place pre-made towers, bridges, stairways, and boxes. As a result, there would be no need to construct structures one at a time.
The term “smart building” reappeared in November 2024 after being mentioned again in files for an update to Fortnite Remix. Now that Chapter 6 Season 1 is well underway, internet leaks have shown footage of the unfinished material.
Video footage of the unfinished smart build feature in operation has been shared by credible leaker osirion_gg. According to earlier information, the new building type will gradually construct prefabricated structures. In the video below, a player uses a few button presses to arrange components for a ramp made of pre-made structures.

“Note that this feature is currently unfinished and it COULD change once released,” Loolo_WRLD added in a later post. Fortnite‘s smart building has not yet been formally announced by Epic Games, and leakers have failed to predict when it might eventually launch in-game.
On the other hand, the smart build might change the game if developers intend to use it. To a certain extent, the feature would lower the entry barrier for players who want to play something other than no-build but don’t enjoy building.
Smart Build might discourage new players from properly learning how building works, which has caused concerns among Fortnite build players. Some, however, believe that since users can already select between Build and Zero Build modes, it might be too late for Epic to launch the streamlined option.
As always, take these leaks with a pinch of salt as nothing has been confirmed officially yet. What are your thoughts about this? Do you think Epic finally made the right call or is it too late for such measures?
